A group of 10 people from Ceredigion made the trip to Newquay, Cornwall in order to see a surf therapy project in action and to meet volunteers and surf teachers working on a programme managed by the Wave Project. The Ceredigion group included representatives from Borth Stormriders Surf Club, Aberystwyth Surf Club, Bica Surf Club, Walkin on Water Surf School and West Wales Action for Mental Health.
Reflection from Lionel – Chairman of Borth Stormriders Surf Club
“Initially, the surfing session took me back to a time when I started surfing. The sheer expression of fun and enjoyment that surfing brings was truly evident. The children were all excited and one boy in particular gave a high five to the volunteers after every wave he caught which in essence summed up the whole feeling and aura of the day. It was a truly inspirational day for me which I could completely relate to after suffering from depression myself.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Cornwall and met some likeminded people who I feel will do an amazing job with the Tonic Project. Despite my many commitments, this is something that I truly would like to be a part of.”
